Established in 2021 by Managing Director Paul McHugh, ComplexaHPE was created as a hub of engineering excellence, uniting the expertise of Complexatools (founded in 1987) and High Precision Engineering (HPE) Limited (founded in 1996). Together, the companies bring more than three decades of experience in high-precision mould design and manufacture, specialising in complex tooling for the medical industry.
From facilities in Glossop, Ashton and Rochdale, ComplexaHPE’s 46 employees designs and manufactures Class 101 precision moulds, the highest standard for high-volume, high-durability production. These tools produce intricate parts for medical devices, diagnostic equipment and orthopaedic implants such as knee joints.
To meet the demanding requirements of medical tooling, ComplexaHPE relies on Cimatron CAD/CAM software to design sophisticated moulds capable of maintaining exceptional accuracy across thousands of production cycles.

Designers Jack Bunting and Richard Capener have each spent over a decade using Cimatron, taking full advantage of its dedicated mould design tools and automation features.
“Cimatron has a lot of features that specifically help with mould design,” explains Bunting. “Once you’ve planned how to create the tool, you can generate the base model in just a few minutes. It saves a huge amount of time.”
Cimatron’s intelligent design wizards and automation tools reduce manual input while maintaining design consistency. Capener has even customised configuration files so material type, surface finish and other key details are automatically linked to part drawings.

Cimatron’s flexibility allows designers to work seamlessly between solid and surface modelling, essential when tackling complex geometries or fine radii found in medical components. Its directional analysis tools also provide instant visual feedback, helping designers identify potential undercuts or mould-release issues early in development.
For repeat projects, Cimatron enables rapid modifications without starting from scratch.
“We can put a new model into an existing tool design and update the entire model in a way that saves a lot of time,” says Bunting.
