Freeform Plus

Geomagic Freeform Plus workflow

What is Freeform?

Freeform is the industry’s most comprehensive, organic, hybrid design software on the market. It enables you to solve complex, precision design and manufacturing challenges and easily address challenging tasks within existing scan-to-print or CAD-to manufacturing workflows.

Why Freeform?

  • Create sculpted shapes, especially products that precisely fit the human body.
  • Add aesthetic and functional details that are difficult or impossible in CAD.
  • Ensure designs are ready for additive, subtractive, or formative manufacturing.
  • Transition from handcrafting to digital design with an intuitive haptic interface.

What Can You Do with Freeform?

Customers are using Freeform for a wide range of applications—from large-scale, customized products to highly-detailed, ornate, and artisanal products—across a variety of industries including:

Product Design and Manufacturing

  • Creating fast design and reiterations of intricate models in minutes.
  • Designing manufacturing-ready models from multiple file formats combining solids and surfaces.
  • Defining complex parting lines, removing undercuts and overhangs, and adding finishing details.
  • Repairing complex geometry no matter the origin design software.

FEATURES:

MultiVox View

Improve precision and reduce design iterations by verifying internal geometry with the new MultiVox View that controls model transparency per layer, and provides cross-sectional analysis. Before sending models for 3D Printing, designers can check internal clearances and take simple measurements to ensure assembly fit.

DICOM Import

Simplify workflows by importing volumetric data from image stacks directly inside of Freeform Plus and convert the data into voxels and polygons. With the new MultiVox function, data from both medical and industrial CT machines can now be imported, processed, and used for designs all inside a single application.*

* Geomagic Freeform is not a medical device and 3D Systems makes no claims that it is intended to treat, plan, or diagnose. However, there is evidence and publicly-available research that indicates many customers are successful using Geomagic Freeform in their own patient-specific solution workflows and are following all local regulatory requirements.

Dynabots

Dynabots are interactive assistants that anyone can build in Freeform Plus. They are a powerful, flexible automation system that works with clicks, not code – so you don’t have to be a developer to create your own Dynabots. Record, edit, and share Dynabots in minutes – from simple recorded macros to sophisticated mini-apps with custom interfaces that can automate almost any workflow in Freeform Plus

Measurement, Analysis and Customization Tools

  • Measure mass properties such as surface areas, volumes, and piece density.
  • Analyze piece-to-piece fit, intersections, thickness, draft, no-fail shelling, and 3D printability.
  • Display the model in different resolutions to increase processing speed and opt for scalable secondary views.
  • Toggle new displays for undercuts, hide/show curves, and fit to view.
  • Customize the user interface with colour schemes and favourite palettes.

Clay Construction Tools

  • Make smooth surfaces and razor-sharp edges with SubD.
  • Model precisely-defined CAD shapes with NURBS and solids or deform and emboss shapes with clay.
  • Create and apply intricate, dimensionally-controlled textures.
  • Use toolsets for voxel, polygonal mesh, SubD, and NURBS modelling.
  • Develop complex parting surfaces for mold insert design.

Clay Sculpting Tools

  • Carve and shape your clay with a wide range of tools in your virtual space including razors, knife cutters, scrapers, and more.
  • Use a variety of tools to smooth, smudge, and shape designs.
  • Bring your design ideas to live with detailing tools to tug, ridge, emboss, and deform your clay without limitations.
  • Use a full range of selection and move features to reposition, align, and separate your designs.
  • Use a full range of dimensional controls to create more accurate designs.

Mass Custom Design Workflow Tools

Streamline mass custom design workflows.

  • Shell Cut Tool: Create layered text or details as independent 3D objects that match the surface contours of the underlying part.
  • Sketch Text Tool: Easily generate outline font profiles and use them to create 3D part labels.

Together these tools make mass customization of any design easier than ever.

2D Slicing Analysis Tool

Improve accuracy in complex designs. A dynamically interactive cross-section inspection tool provides multiple methods and modes to extract slice-based image stacks or profile curves. Use these functions to identify voids, avoid collisions, validate clearance specifications, or reverse engineer the shape of a volume.

3D Curve, Plane, and Sketch Tools

  • Easily draw, repair, and edit curves; project from a sketch to a plane; and intersect sketches and offset curves.
  • Pattern/emboss a bitmap along curves.
  • Create, edit, and sketch on a plane; orient the plane; and copy profiles.
  • Fully create and edit sketches in Freeform with pencil, freehand, control point curves, and basic 2D forms like lines, arcs, and circles.
  • Import 2D digital art files with 2D sketch.

Mesh and Paint Tools

  • Import mesh models, convert to clay, and then edit the data using a range of tools to stitch, deform, and tug to desired shapes.
  • Paint the data with airbrush tools and wrap images on a model.
  • Import and export 2D and 3D industry-standard formats including OBJ, STL, PLY, ZPR, IGES curves, Parasolid, JPG, and more. VRML and Freeform are included as export-only formats.
