Introduction to 3D Systems

3D Systems (3DS) stands at the forefront of 3D printing innovation, having pioneered the technology since its inception in 1986. Founded by the ‘Father of 3D Printing’ Chuck Hull, who invented the world’s first 3D printer, 3DS introduced the ground-breaking SLA (StereoLithography Apparatus) technology. The company has since expanded its offerings to include a range of advanced 3D printing technologies, including CJP (colour-jet printing), MJP (multi-jet printing), DLP (digital light processing), SLS (selective laser sintering), and EXT (pellet extrusion). Headquartered in North Carolina, 3DS delivers cutting-edge solutions around the world, and is represented by CDG 3D TECH in the UK.

The 3D Systems range of professional 3D printers are sold and supported via CDG as the UK distributor & key support partner.

DLP Figure 4

The Figure 4 DLP series (inc. Standalone, Modular, 135) presents an affordable, versatile solution for low-volume production and same-day prototyping, offering speed, quality, and accuracy. With a compact and easy-to-use design, the Figure 4 series delivers industrial-grade durability at an affordable price and low total cost of operations.

When you need to supplement or replace injection mould tooling in the plastic manufacturing process, Figure 4 135 offers faster, more flexible and cost-efficient production for both prototyping and low-to-mid volume batch production for end-use parts.

MJP ProJet 2500

Access high fidelity, functional plastic or elastomeric prototypes with scan-to-CAD accuracy and up to 3X higher 3D printing speeds than similar class printers. Capable of printing in Ultra High Definition mode, the PJ2500 makes it possible to print even smaller features, down to 300 microns or finer. The ProJet 2500 MJP series includes the ProJet 2500 Plus, the ProJet 2500 IC (Investment Casting), and the ProJet 2500W (Wax).

MJP 300W

Produce flexible, durable, and high-quality jewellery patterns, designed to ensure reliable performance and consistent results. VisiJet wax materials melt like standard casting waxes, resulting in defect-free castings with zero ash content. They are highly durable, making them ideal for handling and casting intricate features.

EXT Titan

Print bigger and faster with the EXT Titan, while reducing costs with affordable thermoplastic pellets. The Titan is a proven production additive manufacturing system for applications including tooling, fixtures, end-use parts, and full-scale prototypes. Built with a welded steel frame and an industrial actively heated enclosure, the Titan is ready to produce high-performance, functional parts on the factory floor.

Are Printed Patterns Viable for Production?

In the model presented in this paper, the cost and time required to print patterns is compared to the time and cost of actual molded wax patterns for dozens of parts to determine under what conditions it will be cheaper and/ or faster to print patterns than to mold them.

Choose the Right Nylon for your Application

With dozens of commercially available variants, these nylon materials have served the market well and represent the majority of SLS material choices. Now, with the introduction of DuraForm® PAx, the industry is provided a unique nylon co-polymer that will be the base material for a new family of SLS materials.
